// COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions.

What's the difference between tax preparation and tax planning?
Tax preparation is looking backward. It is the act of taking the history that happened last year and filing an accurate tax return. It's necessary, but it is not where the real value is. Tax planning is looking forward. It's identifying opportunities before the year closes: structuring income the right way, timing deductions strategically, optimizing how your entities are set up, and making decisions now that reduce what you'll owe later. Most CPAs do preparation. We do both, but planning is where we spend most of our energy, because that's where our clients actually save money.
Who do you typically work with?
Our client's are business owners, high-net-worth individuals, and families with significant assets or tax complexities. They are typcially executives, founders, professionals, or business owners whose personal and business finances are complex and difficult to manage or keep organized. What they all have in common is complexity and a sense that their current CPA is handling their taxes but not really thinking about them on a deep level. If you're paying a significant amount in taxes each year and wondering whether you could be doing better, you're probably the right fit.
Do you work with clients outside your local area?
Yes, most of our client relationships are conducted remotely. We work with clients across the country through video calls, secure document sharing, and our client portal. Geography has never been a barrier to good planning, and our clients tend to value responsiveness and expertise over proximity. If you're looking for a CPA who will actually engage with your situation year-round, location shouldn't be what stops you from reaching out.
How is your firm different from a typical CPA?
Most CPA firms are built around volume. They serve hundreds of clients, and you hear from them once a year during tax season. We work differently. We keep a small, deliberate book of clients so that you get genuine attention throughout the year. The goal isn't just accurate filings, it is a real advisory relationship focused on your long-term financial picture.
How do I get started?
The first step is a short introductory call. We will talk about your situation, what you are currently doing, and where you think there might be room for improvement. If it seems like a good fit on both sides we will move into a deeper discovery conversation and put a plan together. You can reach out to get started on our contact us page.
